about mat
What Is Medication-Assisted Treatment?
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) combines FDA-approved medications with counseling and behavioral support to treat substance use disorders. It is not a substitution, it is evidence-based medicine designed to stabilize your body, reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings, and create the space you need to focus on recovery.
At InSight, MAT is offered alongside psychiatric care and counseling, all under one roof, with providers who know your full picture. Your treatment plan is personalized, medically supervised, and designed to support long-term stability.
- FDA-Approved Medications: Suboxone, Sublocade, Vivitrol, Brixadi, and more.
- Integrated Care: MAT, psychiatry, and counseling coordinated by one team.
- Outpatient and Telehealth: Flexible scheduling to fit your life and responsibilities.
Candidates for Treatment
Who Is MAT For?
MAT is appropriate for individuals struggling with substance use disorders who want medically supervised support. If opioid or alcohol use is affecting your health, relationships, or daily life, you may be a candidate.
Opioid Use Disorder
For individuals struggling with dependence on opioids, including heroin, fentanyl, Kratom, oxycodone, or other prescription pain medications. MAT significantly reduces withdrawal symptoms and cravings while supporting recovery.
Alcohol Use Disorder
MAT medications such as naltrexone (Vivitrol) can significantly reduce alcohol cravings and support long-term sobriety. Treatment is combined with counseling to address both the physical and psychological dimensions of alcohol dependence.
Co-Occurring Conditions
When substance use and mental health challenges intersect, such as depression, anxiety, or trauma, InSight addresses both simultaneously. Our integrated model means your MAT provider and your psychiatric provider are in communication from day one.

Setting the Record Straight
Common Misconceptions About MAT
Misunderstandings about Medication-Assisted Treatment is one of the biggest barriers to people seeking the help they need. Here is the truth.
common myth
“MAT is just swapping one addiction for another.”
MAT medications are carefully dosed, medically supervised clinical tools. When used properly, with good accountability, they serve to stabilize brain chemistry in early recovery to reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings, giving a physiological foundation to allow patients to engage fully in their recovery work. The result should be a dramatic improvement in overall behavior and stability.
common myth
“You have to hit rock bottom before you can qualify.”
There is no minimum level of suffering required to seek help. If opioid or alcohol use is sabotaging your health, relationships, work, or everyday functioning, you may be a candidate for MAT. Seeking help early consistently leads to better outcomes. You do not need to wait to feel worse before you deserve to feel better.
common myth
“MAT means you’ll be on medication forever.”
Treatment duration is highly individual and defined by your goals, not a fixed schedule. Some patients transition off medication within several months; others benefit from longer-term maintenance. Your provider works with you to set milestones and adjust your plan as your stability grows. The InSight team supports a vision of recovery that is sustainable and empowering yet realistic.
